Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Kicks Off Great Strides Walks in Jupiter and the Treasure Coast

Local Fundraisers Part of Nationwide Effort to Battle Fatal Disease

West Palm Beach, FL — ThePalm Beach Office of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation announced today the launch of Great Strides, a national walk generating critical funds to support lifesaving cystic fibrosis research, education and care. The 2012 Great Strides walks raised nearly $40 million.

The Jupiter walk is scheduled for April 13th in Carlin Park.  Registration begins at 8:30 AM.The Treasure Coast walk is scheduled for April 19th in Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach.

Registration begins at 6:00 PM. Walk day activities include food, entertainment, and children’s activities.

Funds raised through Great Strides have spurred dramatic progress in the lives of those who have cystic fibrosis (CF). Fifty years ago, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, people with CF are living into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

“We still lose precious young lives to this disease every day. It’smore important than ever that we raise every dollar we can to fight CF,” said Davide Carbone, volunteer chair for the CF Foundation’s Palm Beach office. “We’re grateful for every volunteer, donor and corporate sponsor who supports Great Strides.”

Local sponsors of Great Strides include Tire Kingdom, NCCI, 97.9 WRMF, Illustrated Properties, New Day, Aptalis, Gilead, Genetech, inCourage and Cheney Brothers.

CF is a fatal genetic disease that afflicts 30,000 adults and children in the United States and 70,000 people worldwide. It causes debilitating lung infections leading to premature death. More than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of the CF gene.

The CF Foundation is an accredited charity of the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance.
