A study at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh found that if you distract yourself for just TWO minutes before you decide on something, you'll pick the smarter option.
New Trick To Help You Make Better Decisions
You just need a distracting activity that totally engages your mind, and lasts two minutes. Like listening to an early BEATLES song, playing a turn on "Words With Friends", eating an ice cream sandwich…you get the idea.
The researchers say the two-minute break helps because your conscious mind gets stuck on little details. But your UNconscious mind sees the bigger picture.
And even when you distract your conscious mind, your unconscious mind keeps working. So when you get back to making the decision, the smarter pick should be more clear.
