  • iStraw - While I was on the plane to the Bahamas I was looking through the Skymall magazine and found the coolest thing ever that I just HAD to share with you all! Think about THIS, how many times have we been places and not able to buy a bottle of water?? You don’t want to drink straight tap from an unfamiliar place or God FORBID give tap to your growing kids....enter ISTRAW! It is a portable device that is shaped like a drinking straw and it contains a micro filtration system designed to remove up to 99.99999% of nasty waterborne bacteria and protozoa! Each iStraw will last through 500 liters of water! $40. www.istraw.co.uk

  • Damaged Hair Makeover - Most of us have been there: There was that month where, for no particular reason, you went too hot iron and blow dryer crazy. That time you foolishly decided that yes, in fact, your skin coloring could pull off platinum blonde. Or the two-week vacation in chlorine and salt water and sun where you just totally forgot to bring conditioner.

And now, well, your hair is fried and brittle and disgusting and nothing (with the exception of a wig) seems like it will fix it.

And here's the thing. It won't really.  At least not right away. Fixing a frizzy, burned up mane takes commitment and patience. But it can totally be done. Here's how.

    1. Get a haircut—like two inches at least. Seriously,
this is the first place you have to start. Even if you're one of those super hair-attached people (I completely am), it will grow back. And the less of it, the easier the repair...

    2. Stop blow-drying, stop curling, stop ironing, stop it all. (If you must, switch to an Ionic dryer and a ceramic iron—the way they distribute heat is better for your hair. And always spritz on a protective product first.)

    3. Start an intense conditioning program. You hair is kind of in crisis mode and needs lots of attention—you should be deep conditioning twice a week and regular conditioning and leave-in conditioning every day. I know, it's a lot of conditioning! But you need it!

    4. Throw out any products that contain alcohol (obviously very drying, but you'd be surprised how many popular lines contain it) and temporarily cease using "clear" shampoos. Any shampoo that's translucent has fewer moisturizing properties so look for ones that are pearly and creamier. Also, when you rinse out your shampoo and conditioner, use cool water.

    5. Stop washing your hair everyday... wash it every other day, every three days if you can handle it.

This 5 step plan should help.  If you have longer hair, you also can occasionally glop an extra amount of conditioner on the ends after towel drying and wrap your hair up when it's still kind of wet. The next time you wash it, it will feel much softer...

Oh, and here are some deep conditioners I like:

    Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment, $21

Made of palm nut oil, smells weird, but is honestly the best.

L'oreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture Creme Jar, $8.89

Not quite as intense as Ojon, but smells like apples and joy.

  • Clown Face Deli Meat - Have you ever wished your deli meat had a little more personality?  Yeah, me neither… but I guess kids might find this sort of thing appealing.  Maybe. Apparently, you can buy a log of deli meat (sounds appetizing already, right?) which has been colored so that when you cut it, each slice looks like it has a smiling clown face on it. Supposedly, the clown meat is 80% pork… but there's no mention of what sort of mystery meat the other 20% might be.

  • Jergens Natural Glow Firming Lotion - Since you all know me to preach about the ill-effects of the sun I have always been into self tanning creams but when I noticed my friends natural-looking glow, I had to ask. So I went to my local CVS and bought the new JERGENS NATURAL GLOW FIRMING lotion, I followed the exact directions and used the lotion everyday for exactly two weeks. I noticed major results in just two days. I looked tan (not orange) almost instantly. I also noticed the firming effects immediately on my inner thighs and tummy. My hubby was even fooled, he has no idea I've been using the lotion and thinks that my instant tan is natural. I give this product two thumbs up and will continue to use it without getting wrinkles like the sun would give us!

  • Avon's Tahitian Holiday - Before I learned about aging your skin from taking sun and of course, skin cancer, I thought tanning oil was THE single most glamorous thing a woman could wear. I'd sit on the beaches in NJ and soak up the sun til my skin burned, peeled off then FINALLY revealed a glowing savage tan.....that was UNTIL I learned the dangers of sunbathing and protected myself. But now that I've got my (pale) grown-up hands on Avon's Tahitian Holiday Eau de Toilette, I finally feel every bit the way I wanted to 2 decades ago.

The scent is beachy and coconut-y all at once, but because it's also crammed with floral notes, it smells much more sophisticated than you'd expect from a beach-inspired perfume. In fact, the blend smells exactly like tanning oil layered over expensive perfume, a combo that's flattering on anyone.

  • Discontinued Makeup - Okay, so you're freaking out over a discontinued shade of Estee Lauder makeup and cannot for the life of you find it anywhere. No worries! Call Estee Lauder's "Gone but Not Forgotten" hotline at 1-800-216-7173, or log onto Esteelauder.com and click on their Beauty Bye-Bye list to find out which shades will (or have) been pulled from shelves before it's too late. How great is this? Can every makeup line please do this?? Seriously!!

  • Kids Bandages - I am a sucker for a cute bandage, I will be the first to admit it, I also secretly get a big kick out of the fact that my husband is the only male in our house so when he gets a cut or something doing yard work or what have you, he has to wear a Hello Kitty or princess band aid, it’s the best! But I have found a website with the COOLEST bandages! LOVE the fairies!! www.perpetualkid.com

  • Shiny Lip Gloss - As summer and the super hot weather approaches, you may want to take notice of a new health concern ladies. Doctors now believe shiny lip balms and glosses may increase our risk of skin cancer. Apparently the bright rays of the sun are “attracted” to lip glosses. We should only wear glossy lipsticks in the sun when we have a layer of sun protection on even under makeup. Lips are more susceptible to aging from chronic sun damage. Doctors say your lips can develop serious cancers.

  • Coloron Eye Makeup - This is one of the many reasons that I love ricks wife MaryJo so much, when she fills in for me, she actually does WORK for me!! She left this magazine page for me for a possible "Michelle’s Minute" and I LOVED IT! This is for all of the people who really aren’t creative when it comes to doing their own eye makeup! it is called COLORON and they are available in 19 shades and they are made with pure minerals from glamorous to neutrals... basically they are little stickers with eye shadow that is blended perfectly in a pattern right on them and all you have to do is put it on your eyelid and peel it off-the shadow stays right on your lid, perfectly every time! www.coloron.com
